“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”

- 1 Peter 1:14-15

First In Your Life

First In Your Life

In 2014, the American Psychological Association conducted a survey on the importance of physical exercise. Fifty percent of the adults surveyed said that being physically fit and active was extremely or very important to them. However, only 27% of those adults reported actually working out. It’s easy to agree that something is good or beneficial, but it’s an entirely different thing to live out those words. If I say to a Christian that Christ is supreme over all creation and He comes first, it’s likely the Christian would agree with me. But does the lifestyle reflect the opinion? In the first chapter of the book of Colossians, Paul makes the case for the supremacy of Christ.

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.”
(Colossians 1:15-17)

So since Christ existed before anything was created, since He is supreme over all creation, where does He rank in your life? Everything that we can see and everything we can’t was created through Christ and for Christ. Jesus holds all of creation together. Paul makes it clear that Jesus is first, so is He first in your life? Does anything come before Jesus in your life? Do your actions prove your answer? What do you do first in your day: coffee, phone, or prayer? How much time do you spend on social media and how much time do you spend studying Christ’s Word? You are part of creation and Christ is supreme over all creation—does your life reflect that? Does Jesus really come first in your life?

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
