Before the Rooster Crows

Peter declared, “Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you.”
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me.” (Matthew 26:33-34)

How many times do we deny that we know Christ before the rooster crows? How many times do we do it throughout the day? When you’re frustrated and alone and you shout out curses in anger. When you’re in traffic and you curse the other drivers. When you return to the sin you continue to keep secret. We deny that we know Christ when we behave in ways contrary to how He tells us to behave.

“‘If you love me, obey my commandments.’” (John 14:15)

“What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions?” (James 2:14)

Our actions show what we believe, so what do your actions show? Do your actions show that you let your anger control you? Do your actions show that you have not yet given up your sinful life? Do your actions show that you love Jesus? How many times does the rooster crow daily on you? Don’t deny that you know Jesus by the way you behave. Let what you do and say point others to Christ. Let the words of your mouth and the meditations of your heart be pleasing to the Lord. Let everything you say and do point to Jesus.

To the glory of the Lord God, whose I am, and whom I serve.
