Fall Fatigue

Fall fatigue is the name given to the fatigue that a lot of people feel as we experience less and less sunlight throughout the day. Scientists have named this phenomenon “Seasonal Affective Disorder” or SAD. It’s a tiredness, low energy, low mood that people experience during autumn. But our Lord promises to give rest to the weary.

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:28-31)

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.’” (Matthew 11:28-30)

We are promised rest by our Lord and strength when we trust Him. When we are tired, we can be more susceptible to temptations or old habits we have nailed to the cross, and if we are not diligent in this fall fatigue, we may fall due to our fatigue.

“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

“Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.” (Psalm 37:7)

“You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.” (James 5:8)

“The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)

So during those times when we are tired and feeling fatigued and those temptations and old habits come calling to your weary mind, have patience, wait upon the Lord, and look for the way out that He promises to provide. Rest in Him and know that Jesus is strong enough to carry any burdens you are carrying. Fight fall fatigue rather than falling because of your fatigue.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
