New posts every Monday and Friday mornings!

“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”

- 1 Peter 1:14-15

Mark The Doorways

Mark The Doorways

“They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the animal. (…) On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt. I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt, for I am the Lord! But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are staying. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.” (Exodus 12:7, 12-13)

The tenth plague against Egypt was the releasing of the Angel of Death to sweep through the land and take every firstborn son. Pharoah’s hard heart had forced this tragic ultimatum, but God provided a way of escape from the death: marking one’s doorway with the blood of the lamb which would be the first Passover. It was the blood of the lamb that marked them as belonging to God and it is still the Blood of the Lamb that marks us as belonging to God and saves us from death.

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Have you accepted Jesus’ payment for your sins, a payment that cost Him His life? If so, have you marked the doorways of your heart with the Blood of the Lamb? Have you marked all of them or are there still doorways to be marked? It was the doorway which was marked because the doorway is the way into the house, but there are many ways into our hearts and we must mark all of them with the bBlood of the Lamb, keeping no secret sin or pleasure in the darkness.

“Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, ‘I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.’ And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” (Psalm 32:5)

“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts.” (1 John 1:8-10)

You can’t lie to God, He knows everything. Trying to hide your sin or leave some doorways of your heart unmarked so that you can continue to enjoy sinful pleasures isn’t fooling God, it’s only hurting your salvation. Visual media is a doorway for me, so I avoid a lot of shows and movies that contain things which would open up a slippery slope for me. That doorway is marked by the Blood of the Lamb. Death is not welcome there and temptation is not allowed to come through that doorway. Marking all of the doorways of your heart may mean missing out on much that this world has to offer, but you will be full of life, full of Spirit, and full of Christ. Don’t let a single doorway go unmarked by the Blood of the Lamb. Mark them all so that when the Angel of Death comes, he will pass over you and you will find eternal life.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
