New posts every Monday and Friday mornings!

“So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.”

- 1 Peter 1:14-15

He Just Laughs

He Just Laughs

With assaults on marriage, sexuality, biological gender, basic humanity—the wicked certainly do plot against the godly. How should we react? How does God react?

“The wicked plot against the godly; they snarl at them in defiance. But the Lord just laughs, for he sees their day of judgment coming.” (Psalm 37:12-13)

He just laughs! The assault on Christian beliefs in this world is undeniable, but God just laughs at the plots of the wicked. God can laugh because He sees their day of judgment coming. God has the end in mind and it would be wise for us to keep the end in mind as well.

“Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither.” (Psalm 37:1-2)

“For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land. Soon the wicked will disappear. Though you look for them, they will be gone.” (Psalm 37:9-10)

We’ve used the analogy before of staying at a hotel. While you might take issues with noisy neighbors where you live full-time, it’s easy to shrug off a noisy neighbor at a hotel because you realize your stay is temporary. The bigger picture of this life is that our stay is temporary.

“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.” (James 4:14)

“Dear friends, I warn you as ‘temporary residents and foreigners’ to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.” (1 Peter 2:11)

The plots of the wicked against the godly are certainly real, but when we keep the end in mind, when we remember that this is only a temporary home and our lives are like the morning fog, then we can react the way our great God reacts to wicked plots: He just laughs.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
