Here Comes The Son

Less than 500 years ago, mankind thought that the earth was the center of the universe. It was widely accepted by commoners and academics alike; we had placed ourselves at the center of the universe and we quite liked it. In the 16th century it was Nicolaus Copernicus who proposed the heliocentric model of the universe, claiming the sun to be the immovable center and the earth revolving around it. This was met with much criticism and debate, but about 100 years later, James Bradley was able to prove Copernicus’ heliocentric model of the universe. It is so natural for us to put ourselves at the center. We still do this today, no longer with our planet but with our own lives. We behave as if life revolves around us, our wants, our needs, and our perspectives. Social media only enables and encourages this self-centered view of life, but as with the reality of our solar system, we are not the center—it is the Son.

“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him,  and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.” (John 1:1-4)

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else,  and he holds all creation together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)

Nothing exists without Christ. Everything was made through Him and for Him. Jesus is at the center of all creation. As Christ-followers we should keep Him at the center of our lives.

“‘Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.’” (Matthew 6:33)

“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

To be a Christian is to live a Christ-centered life. Let go of the idea that life is all about you and what you want. You are not the center of life, Christ is. As the earth revolves around the sun, so we too should revolve around the Son.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
