Noelle

In this series, we are encouraging you to find Jesus and Truth in some of your favorite Christmas films. Another movie that we check off our Christmas movie playlist is Noelle. This is a newer Christmas movie that was released on Disney+ in 2019. The story follows Noelle, the daughter of Santa Claus, just after his death. Her brother Nick is set to become the next Santa Claus per tradition, but he doesn’t want to be Santa and he runs away. Noelle has to find him and convince him to come back to the North Pole to accept his responsibilities, but it becomes clear that the next Santa Claus is, in fact, Noelle.

It’s a very cute movie with a heart-warming message that doesn’t slam you over the head. One of the clues that Noelle is the rightful Santa Claus is that she can speak and understand several different languages. The look on the face of the deaf girl when Noelle signs to her is heart-warming and it reminds me that language is not a barrier for God. It doesn’t matter what language you speak—God can still speak to you and understand you. Jesus was sent to save the world, not just some of it, and we know at the end of time that people from every nation and every language will join in the song of the Lamb!

“‘For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.’” (John 3:16)

“After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar, ‘Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!’” (Revelation 7:9-10)

As of September of last year, the entire Bible has been translated into 704 languages, with the New Testament having been translated into an additional 1,551! Language is no barrier to God. Another way we see this happening is in the millions of Muslims who are converting to Christianity every year. Some of these conversions are spurred on by a rebellion against Extremist Islam, but many more are brought on by dreams and visions. We don’t put much stock in dreams in our modern Western culture, but in Islam, dreams carry great significance and God is using this to bring Truth to many Muslims around the world. Many Muslims who have converted to Christianity cite dreams of a man in white clothes telling them about Jesus. God has used dreams to speak to people many times in the Bible, even in the Christmas story.

“Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. ‘Joseph, son of David,’ the angel said, ‘do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’ (…) When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife.” (Matthew 1:19-21, 24)

God is still moving and bringing people to Him today through any means He chooses. Language is no barrier to Him and with advancements in technology it is becoming less of a barrier to us. Don’t let any perceived barrier hold you back from spreading the Good News of Christ this Christmas season.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
