If You Seek Him, You Will Find Him

Have you ever lost something important? Maybe you misplaced your phone for a few terrifying moments. What’s it like when you realize that thing is lost? You stop everything and search everywhere with every ounce of your being until it is found. The way we search for things we care about when they’re lost is how God wants us to search for Him. He wants us to search for Him wholeheartedly, and He makes promises to us if we do.

“Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.” (Psalms 119:2)

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13)

God has promised us that if we seek Him with all our hearts we will find Him, but some may ask, where is God? Where is Jesus? Are they hidden? If He promises that we will find Him when we seek Him with all our hearts, is He really going to be that hard to find? Or is the issue going to be more about how hard we are seeking?

“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

First and foremost, it does take faith. Some are looking for faithless proof, and faithless proof does not exist with God. Not yet at least. This may surprise some, but most things in this world take faith. For instance, when you’re looking for the important item that you lost, you’re looking because you believe you will find it. You have faith that you will find it, otherwise you wouldn’t look. It’s the same with God: the only way you can truly seek Him wholeheartedly is if there is even the tiniest part of you that believes you’ll find Him. There will come a day when no one will be able to deny God’s existence, but that will be when Jesus comes again and He establishes the new heaven and the new earth.

“Look! He comes with the clouds of heaven. And everyone will see him— even those who pierced him. And all the nations of the world will mourn for him. Yes! Amen!” (Revelation 1:7)

You need to find Him before this happens. Jesus once told a crowd to put their trust in Him “while there is still time.” One day time will literally run out. So where is God?

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.” (Psalms 19:1)

Just like any creator, we can see God’s craftsmanship in what He has created. He created both man and animal, and while we may look drastically different on the outside from any number of different animals, on the inside you still find the same mechanics: heart, lungs, intestines, kidneys, liver, stomach. The same God that made this Helix nebula:

 …made this eye:

The same God who made this cloud:

 …made this wave:

It was the same God who made the leaf, the rivers, and blood vessels.

The work of His hands and the fingerprints of our Creator are everywhere, and we will find Him when we seek Him with all our heart.

In 1992, the Hubble space telescope took a picture of the center of our galaxy:

The laminin molecule is the structural protein of our cells. One molecular biologist called it the rebar of the human body. This protein is what binds everything inside of us together at the molecular level. They hold it all together. I first heard of the laminin protein in a sermon by Louis Giglio. Here’s what the laminin molecule looks like:

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.” (Colossians 1:15-17)

Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God and He holds all creation together. From our galaxy to our cells, the visual image of the cross binds it all together. I don’t believe it’s coincidence that what holds our cells and galaxy together is in the shape of a cross. I believe it is design, and so did the apostle Paul.

“For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” (Romans 1:20)

God’s invisible qualities were so obvious to Paul through creation, that he said no one has any excuse for not knowing God. If you are still looking, if you are still seeking, make sure you are seeking with all your heart. If you haven’t been looking with all your heart, now is a good time to start. The evidence is all around us—we are surrounded by the work of His hands. All creation is covered in His fingerprints, and you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
